My work in Spain has taken me to the Higueron Resort in Fuengirola, Malaga, hosting a gala dinner for the travel industry that raised money for a children’s hospital charity. The room needed the same things any fundraising evening needs, just delivered a long way from home: pacing, warmth, and a reason to keep bidding.
Getting a room to sing along to the Superman theme or laugh along to a Doctor Who bit is not standard MC material, but it is exactly the kind of moment that keeps an international fundraising evening alive rather than letting it go flat between appeals. That instinct comes from twenty years of live television and comedy presenting, wherever in the world the room happens to be.
