I have hosted the fundraiser at The Queens Hotel, right on Leeds city centre’s station square, for two years running now. A client rebooking the same host for the same night the following year is worth more than any client testimonial: it means the room worked, the pacing was right, and the target was met.
A city-centre fundraiser has to hold a room that is dressed up, generous, and ready to be moved. My background is live television and comedy, which is where that instinct for pace comes from: twenty years of reading an audience and adjusting in real time rather than working from a fixed script.
