Bingo, but it’s a party.

Proper 90-ball bingo turned into a full-blown rave. Paper cards, a dance break between the numbers, a prize for the best dancer, a forfeit for a false shout, and the whole room on its feet. It is the game that tips an evening over into a party, and I host the lot from the front.

How a round plays

How Bongo Bingo plays, minute by minute.

Two rounds, dance breaks throughout, and forfeits for a false call. Here is how a game runs, start to finish.

  1. I call the numbers, with a bit of patter

Ninety balls, drawn at random on the big screen. Each one tumbles in as a giant bingo ball with a cheeky caller line underneath, and its number lights up on a rainbow board the whole room can read. You play it on paper like real bingo; I verify the winning card in the room. It is the format everyone knows, turned up loud.

    1
Bongo Bingo on the big screen: the called number as a giant bingo ball and the 1 to 90 board
  2. Then the rave break

This is the bit that makes it Bongo Bingo. Between numbers I drop a dance track, a thirty-second countdown takes over the screen, the room is up on its feet, and the best dancer wins a prize. The music is built in and never starts by itself, so it hits exactly when the room needs lifting.

  3. First a line, then a full house

Two rounds, two prizes. Round one plays for a single line and the first to shout it wins; round two plays for a full house. Giant letters, a fanfare and confetti when someone wins, and the prizes are as daft or as good as you like.

    3
Bongo Bingo winner screen on the big screen: full house in giant letters
  4. Shout bingo by mistake? Forfeit

Call a false line and the room will let you know. The screen goes full hazard tape, I pick a forfeit from the list on my control, and you perform it for the crowd. Family-friendly, always in good fun, and the room loves it when it happens.

On the big screen

The real screens, not a mock-up.

Every screen here is my own software, captured at the size a projector throws. Big, bold and built to be read from the back of the room, run from one control at the front.

The forfeits

Shout bingo by mistake? Take your pick.

Someone always calls it early. When they do, the big screen goes full hazard tape and one of these ten lands on a giant yellow card. They perform it, the room cheers, and the game rolls on.

  1. Do your best robot dance
  2. Show us your best superhero pose
  3. Do your best celebrity impression
  4. Sing the chorus of your favourite song
  5. Give us your best catwalk strut
  6. Do ten star jumps
  7. Tell everyone your best joke
  8. Do your best moonwalk
  9. Lead the room in a Mexican wave
  10. Take a bow like you’ve won an Oscar

All ten are family-friendly and always in good fun. I choose the one that suits the person who shouted, so nobody gets a forfeit they would hate.

Three ways to play

Three ways to play Bongo Bingo.

Every game I run can be played three ways, and I pick the way that suits the room, the timings and the layout on the night: as a show at the front, table against table, or with every single guest playing on their own phone. Mix them across an evening and nobody spends the night watching.

As a show

The full rave-bingo show from the front

The way it is meant to run. I am on the microphone calling the balls, the dance breaks hit between numbers, and the whole room is up and down between playing their cards and dancing for a prize. Line, full house, forfeits and a proper build to the finale.

Best for: Christmas parties and big social nights

At the tables

Table against table for the prizes

Every table plays its cards together and the winning table claims the prize, so the rivalry runs the length of the room rather than one lucky person at the front. The dance breaks turn each table into its own little dance-floor, and the forfeits are even funnier with a table egging someone on.

Best for: conference dinners and awards afterparties

On the app

Pair it with a phone game between rounds

Bongo Bingo itself is played on paper, the way bingo should be. But I host the whole night, so between the bingo rounds I can get every phone out for a round of Common Ground or Side Bets, then drop straight back into the next rave break. One host, one screen, no dead air.

Best for: whole-company nights

Built for the room

Same game. Two very different rooms.

I customise every game for the audience in front of me: the questions, the answers, and the way I present them. The same format is a completely different show for a room of graduates in their twenties and a room of chief executives, and it should be. I write for the people who will actually be there, then I speak into the listening on the night: I read what the room is giving back and change gear to match it.

A young team on their Christmas party

Loud, daft and all about the dancing

How I run it
Fast calls, short gaps, and a rave break after almost every number once the room is warm. The dance-offs get competitive and the forfeits get a big cheer.
The prizes
Silly and brilliant: an inflatable something, a giant novelty trophy, a bottle for the table. The sillier the prize, the harder they dance for it.
What lands
The moment the whole room is on its feet mid-number, dancing, and nobody is looking at their phone.
A mixed-age company do or an awards afterparty

Still a party, pitched for the room

How I run it
A touch more bingo, a touch fewer breaks, and the music chosen to get every generation up rather than clear the floor. The forfeits stay gentle and the patter does the work.
The prizes
A good bottle, an experience voucher, or a cheeky company-branded trophy that gets passed around the office all year.
What lands
The senior team you did not expect, up and dancing in the rave break, because the format gives everyone permission.

1Written for your people

Send me the year’s stories, the in-jokes, the departments and the industry. The rounds are built from them, so the answers land in a way no off-the-shelf pack ever can.

2Speaking into the listening

The words on the screen are half of it. How I present them is the rest, and I pitch the pace, the teasing and the tone to the room that has turned up, not the one on the brief.

3If a different crowd turns up

Eight hundred events across festivals, awards, conferences and dinners means I have hosted every kind of room. If the mood is not what anyone expected, I change the style on the spot, and often the questions too.

In the running order

Where Bongo Bingo fits in the night.

Where it sits in the night

Late, once dinner is done and the room wants to let go. It is the game that tips an evening over into a party, so it earns its place after the speeches and the awards.

How long

Thirty to forty-five minutes for two full rounds with the dance breaks. It can be the whole after-dinner slot, or a twenty-minute burst to launch the disco.

Pairs well with

Warm the room up earlier with Common Ground or Family Fortunes, then let Bongo Bingo take the night into the party.

All fourteen games

Fourteen games. One host. One screen.

Five rounds the whole room plays on their phones, and nine big-screen games with teams at the board. All of it is my own software, run from one screen, so I can switch format the moment the room needs a lift. Tap any game to see exactly how it plays.

Every one of these can be played as a show, at the tables or on the app, and every one is written around your company before the night. Not sure which mix suits your event? Tell me the room and I will suggest a running order.

For the venue

Nothing to install. Nothing to worry about.

  • The bingo is played on paper cards, so there is no app and no Wi-Fi to rely on for the game itself.
  • The music and the dance breaks are built into my software and never start by themselves.
  • The venue provides a screen and a sound system. I bring the laptop, the control and everything else.
  • One host, one screen, the whole night run from the front, bingo and dance breaks and all.

Good to know

Bongo Bingo FAQs.

What is Bongo Bingo?

It is proper 90-ball bingo turned into a party. You play the numbers the way you always have, on paper cards, but between the numbers there are dance breaks, dance-offs decide the ties, there are forfeits for a false call, and there are prizes throughout. It takes its cue from the alternative rave-bingo nights that have become huge with younger crowds, hosted for your event by me.

Can I hire Bongo Bingo for a corporate event or private party?

Yes. I host Bongo Bingo UK-wide for Christmas parties, company socials, awards afterparties, birthdays and big celebrations. I bring the whole show, run it from one screen at the front, and tailor the pace, the music and the prizes to your crowd. Tell me the date, the venue and rough numbers and I will send a quote.

How does the rave break work?

After a number I press play on a dance track and a thirty-second countdown fills the big screen while the room dances. The best dancer, my pick or the room’s, wins a prize. The music is built into my software and never starts on its own, so every break lands on cue. You can give me your own playlist or leave the tracks to me.

What happens if someone shouts bingo by mistake?

A false call earns a forfeit. I put one up on the big screen from a family-friendly list, things like ‘show us your best robot dance’ or ‘take a bow like you’ve won an Oscar’, and they perform it for the room. It is always in good fun and it is one of the biggest laughs of the night.

How many rounds are there and what are the prizes?

Two rounds as standard: the first plays for a single line, the second for a full house, each with a prize. Plus a prize for the best dancer in the breaks. The prizes are yours to choose, from daft novelty items to a good bottle or a branded trophy, and I will happily advise on what works for your crowd.

How many people can play?

Any size of room, from thirty to several hundred. Everyone plays on paper cards, so there is no app and no Wi-Fi to worry about for the bingo itself. I verify the winning cards in the room, the way a real bingo hall does.

Is it suitable for a work crowd?

Yes. The caller lines are cheeky rather than crude, the forfeits are family-friendly, and I pitch the whole thing to the room in front of me, whether that is a young team letting loose or a mixed-age company do. It is a party, hosted properly.

Do you need anything from the venue?

A screen or projector and a sound system, which most function rooms already have. I bring the software, the laptop, the control and the know-how, and I run the whole night from the front. There is nothing to install and nothing for your IT team to set up.

What does it cost?

Fees are quoted individually for the date, the venue, the numbers and the length of the show. Send me the details and the running order and I will come back with a quote.
