Who’s Bluffing? is the game that turns your own people into the entertainment. Before the night, your team send me their true stories. On the night, three go up at a time, only one of them real, and every guest votes on their phone. Spot the truth and you score. Fool the room and you climb the Best Liar leaderboard, which is the award everyone actually wants to win.
Think Would I Lie to You?, with your colleagues on the panel and three hundred people voting.
How a round plays
Your team submit their stories through a simple form before the event. I write the rounds from them, so the bluffs are about people the room actually knows.
Priya once sold an ice cream to Sir David Attenborough.
Dev was an extra in a Bond film.
Sam has a black belt in judo.
One is true. I read them, or the people themselves do, and the room starts arguing.
Ninety seconds on every phone. Tables lobby each other, people stare at Dev, and the vote count climbs on the big screen. Nobody sees the split until it locks.
The bars fill in. Forty-one per cent went for the ice cream, and the ice cream was a lie. The true story is marked, and your phone tells you whether you spotted it or got fibbed.
Anyone whose story fooled the room collects a point for every person they took in. That total runs all night, so the quiet one from accounts can end up top of the Best Liar board.
Guest scores are grouped by table for the main leaderboard, and the Best Liar is announced at the end of the night. I have never seen anyone refuse that award.
On the big screen
Who’s Bluffing? runs on two screens at once: the big screen the whole room watches, and the phone in every guest’s hand. Both are my own software, built for live events and run from one control screen at the front.
Three ways to play
Every game I run can be played three ways, and I pick the way that suits the room, the timings and the layout on the night: as a show at the front, table against table, or with every single guest playing on their own phone. Mix them across an evening and nobody spends the night watching.
As a show
The classic panel show. Three guests come to the front, each with a story, and the room votes on their phones or by a show of hands. I cross-examine, the room heckles, and the bluffers have to hold their nerve. Brilliant with a senior team who are game.

Each table sends up one story of their own, true or invented, and the other tables vote on it. Tables score for spotting truths and for the bluffs that get past the room, so the whole table is in on the lie.

I customise every game for the audience in front of me: the questions, the answers, and the way I present them. The same format is a completely different show for a room of graduates in their twenties and a room of chief executives, and it should be. I write for the people who will actually be there, then I speak into the listening on the night: I read what the room is giving back and change gear to match it.
Send me the year’s stories, the in-jokes, the departments and the industry. The rounds are built from them, so the answers land in a way no off-the-shelf pack ever can.
The words on the screen are half of it. How I present them is the rest, and I pitch the pace, the teasing and the tone to the room that has turned up, not the one on the brief.
Eight hundred events across festivals, awards, conferences and dinners means I have hosted every kind of room. If the mood is not what anyone expected, I change the style on the spot, and often the questions too.
In the running order
Once the room is warm, usually after the first course. It needs people who have relaxed enough to lie well.
Three to four minutes a round including the reveal. Four or five rounds makes a block; one a course works beautifully.

Good to know
It has the same heart: true stories, confident bluffs and a room trying to tell the difference. The difference is that the stories are about your own people, and instead of a panel of three voting, the whole room votes on their phones and the bluffers score for everyone they fool.
Your team. Before the event I send a simple online form and people submit true things about themselves. I pick the best, write the bluffs to sit alongside them and build the rounds. Nobody has to prepare anything on the night.
Not unless they want to. By default I read all three stories myself and the room votes on which is true. If you have a few natural performers, they can tell their own and the game gets even better.
A running total, across the whole night, of how many people each bluffer fooled. It is announced at the end alongside the table leaderboard, and it is the trophy people fight over.
Everyone in the room votes, so it scales from thirty to three hundred. The show version at the front works with any size of room; the phone version has been tested with three hundred voting at once.
Yes. The stories are chosen and edited by me before the night, so nothing goes on the screen that should not. It is sharp, not cruel.
