Sports quiz questions with answers for a pub or work quiz

In short
- Here are 55 sports quiz questions with answers in six rounds, from football and cricket to darts, a funny round and Christmas, plus a tie-breaker.
- Every answer was checked against a source in October 2026, including the World Cup, Wimbledon and the Crucible this year.
- No round is all football, so a table that never watches Match of the Day can still win.
- Records and champions change, so put the year in any question about “the current” holder.
- Finish on a tie-breaker with a number for an answer.
A lot of sports quiz questions online are written by football fans for football fans. That’s fine in a pub, but in a work quiz the room is mixed, and a table that hasn’t watched a match since school switches off by question three. These are written for that room: some football, plenty of cricket, rugby, tennis and darts, and a funny round for the people who only came for the buffet.
All of them were checked in October 2026. Sport changes fast, so where an answer depends on this year’s result, the year is in the question.

What makes good sports quiz questions?
Good sports quiz questions have one answer, cover more than one sport and give people who don’t follow sport a fair guess. The worst sports round is ten questions about one club’s 1990s midfield.
- Mix the sports. Football gets one round here, not all six. A mixed room needs cricket, darts and tennis too, or half of it sits out.
- Date anything that can change. “Who won Wimbledon in 2026?” stays right forever. “Who is the Wimbledon champion?” is wrong by next July.
- Use big moments. Finals and famous grounds beat transfer fees.
- Leave out the arguments. If the answer depends on how you count, it isn’t here.

How do you run a sports pub quiz at work?
To run a sports pub quiz at work, keep it short, mix the sports and put the year in any question about a winner. A pub crowd chose a quiz night. A work crowd didn’t, so three or four rounds of ten is plenty around a meal.
- Play the football round second. By then every table has scored on something else, and the fans have had to wait.
- Write down what you’ll accept. “Ally Pally” for Alexandra Palace, “Europe” or “Team Europe” for the Ryder Cup. Decide before the night.
- Add a local round. Questions about your own five-a-side team or the office sweepstake are the ones nobody can look up.
- Swap in a picture round. Kits and badges suit a big screen.
If you want a wipeout or a joker round on top, there are more quiz round ideas, plus a guide to running a corporate quiz night.
How I run a sports quiz on my own software
Read from a sheet, a sports round splits the room. The fans shout. Everyone else checks their phone until it is over. So I run quizzes as a show, on software I built myself, and every game can be played at the front, at the tables or on every guest’s phone.

- On every phone. With Quiz Live, every guest answers on their own phone, with four colour tiles and a countdown. Fast and right scores more than slow and right, and the leaderboard comes up after every question.
- On a Quiz Show board. Five rounds become five categories, from easy to hard. Teams pick, buzz in and steal each other’s misses, and badges or grounds go straight on the big screen as picture questions.
- As a knockout. The Cut puts the whole room in. Five typed questions a round, no options to guess from, and the lowest scores are cut until one player is left.
I write the questions for the people in the room. A graduate intake gets a different sports quiz from a board of directors, and the questions about your own company come out of the briefing. The night is won in the briefing, not on the stage.
